Common Questions
Does it really need to freeze for 12-24 hours?
I’ve had success with a freezing time of 8 hours, but I wouldn’t recommend any less than that. It will melt quickly once it reaches the soft-serve consistency.
Is Dole Whip dairy-free?
Yes! The original Dole Whip and this recipe are both dairy-free, using coconut milk for the creaminess.
What's the difference between pineapple sorbet and Dole Whip?
Dole Whip is a coconut pineapple sorbet that is served as a soft-serve texture instead of a harder ice cream texture that is typical for store-bought sorbet.
What if I have a coconut allergy or don't like it?
You can substitute the coconut cream in the recipe with equal amounts of oat milk.
How do I choose a ripe pineapple?
My two favorite ways to know if a pineapple is ripe is to do both of the following: 1. Try to pull a leaf from the top center. If a leaf pulls away easily, it’s ripe! 2. Smell the center of the bottom side of the pineapple. If you can smell a sweet aroma, it’s ripe!

What is Dole Whip?
Dole Whip was made famous as a refreshing treat you could only get at Disney World or Disneyland. It’s a pineapple-flavored frozen treat with a soft-serve ice cream consistency that is SO GOOD! Replicating it in the Ninja Creami is such a great way to get that same, perfectly creamy and smooth consistency with very little effort.
Why you’ll love this Ninja Creamy Pineapple Whip
- Refreshing – Is there anything better on a hot day than a cold, fruity treat? The pineapple is sweet and tangy!
- Light – Dole Whip is dairy-free and made with fruit, juice, and coconut cream, and the Ninja Creami (opens in a new tab) gives it the best light and airy texture!
- 4 Ingredients – Just 4 simple, healthy ingredients. That’s it!
- Easy – I love recipes that are quick and easy! Mix up the base, freeze it, and spin it.

Dole Pineapple Whip Recipe Ingredients
With just 4 simple ingredients, this Creami treat can be made easily and quickly! Here’s what you’ll need:
- Pineapple – Fresh, ripe pineapple is delicious in this recipe, but you can also use canned crushed pineapple (opens in a new tab) instead. I will say, though, the fresh pineapple makes all the difference!
- Pineapple Juice – Canned pineapple juice (opens in a new tab) or fresh would both work. Just make sure it is 100% pineapple juice and doesn’t contain sweeteners or stabilizers.
- Coconut Cream (opens in a new tab) – Usually found in the international foods aisle, coconut cream is thicker and richer than coconut milk. You can substitute with oat milk or regular coconut milk, the texture will just be thinner and a little more icy.
- Maple Syrup – The syrup is the perfect sweetener for the Dole Whip. Use honey if you have it on hand or prefer the flavor!

How to make Ninja Creamy Dole Whip
It doesn’t get much easier than the simple steps in this Pineapple Dessert Recipe. Here’s how to make it:
- Whisk together the coconut cream, pineapple, juice, and maple syrup. For a smoother texture, you can blend them in a high-speed blender.
- Pour the mixture into a Ninja Creami pint container, top with the lid, and freeze for 12-24 hours.
- Remove the container from the freezer and let it sit on the counter for 10-15 minutes.
- Spin the Dole Whip on the sorbet setting, stir, and re-spin one more time.
- Scoop & Enjoy!
TIP: Before getting started, it’s important to shake or whisk the coconut cream to get it as smooth as possible!

This was my first ever time using my ninja creami, and this recipe did NOT disappoint! So delicious and a perfect texture. I will be making this again!
Love to hear this, Maggie. Thanks for the review! I’m glad you enjoyed this Dole Whip recipe!
Do you just freeze the wet ingredients with the pineapple chunks (as in-it doesn’t need to go in a blender before freezing)?
Hey Bethany, thank you for the question. If it’s finely chopped pineapple you can just put it all in the freezer together after mixing well. If you’d like a smoother texture or if its large chunks blending it is the way to go. Enjoy!
Can I use a 1/2 cup of heavy whipping cream and a 1/2 cup of coconut milk? Or just coconut milk?
Absolutely! You can do this with just coconut milk if you need it to stay dairy free just know the texture will be a little thinner and a little icier than using the coconut cream, but a 50/50 ratio of heavy cream and coconut milk would help keep that creamier texture.
Can I use cream of coconut?
Yes, that should work great!
What could you substitute the coconut cream with??
You could use heavy whipping cream or whole milk to keep the same texture, otherwise full-fat coconut milk works great! Soy milk would be my next option if you don’t want to do coconut, but it will affect the texture a bit.
