What is Tahini?

Tahini is a smooth paste made of ground sesame seeds. It’s great for using as a base in dressings, sauces, and can be used as a substitute for several types of nut butters.

Tahini Salad Dressing Ingredients

Olive Oil – I love using olive oil, but avocado oil is a great option as well.

Tahini – My favorite is actually Trader Joe’s Tahini. (opens in a new tab) It’s the best for dressings and sauces like this one!

Dijon Mustard – Dijon mustard gives this recipe a kick and flavor that takes it to another level!

Maple Syrup – A touch of sweetness is added to this recipe through maple syrup. However, feel free to use honey or agave syrup instead!

Lemon Juice – Add a squeeze of lemon juice for that creamy lemon flavor!

Does Tahini need to be refrigerated?

Yes! It’s best to store Tahini in the refrigerator to keep it fresh longer. Since Tahini needs to be stored in a cool, dry place, the refrigerator makes for the perfect storage option. Be sure to mix it well when you are ready to use it!

How to Make Tahini Dressing

Making this lemon tahini dressing could not be easier! Simply whisk or shake the ingredients together (in a salad dressing shaker or mason jar), then serve. That’s it!

Tahini Salad Dressing Recipe Variations

  • Garlic Lemon Tahini Dressing: Add 1-2 cloves of minced garlic for an extra burst of flavor. SO perfect for garlic lovers!
  • Spicy Tahini Dressing: Mix in 1/2 teaspoon of red pepper flakes or a dash of sriracha to give your dressing a bit of heat. It’s a great twist for those who love a little spice.
  • Herby Lemon Tahini: Add 1-2 tablespoons of finely chopped fresh herbs like parsley, cilantro, or dill to give this dressing a fresh, vibrant kick.
  • Creamy Tahini Sauce: Want an even creamier version? Stir in 2-3 tablespoons of plain Greek yogurt or a plant-based plain yogurt alternative for a rich, creamy texture that’s next-level. Perfect for turning this dressing into a thicker sauce-like texture!

How to Use Your Homemade Lemon Tahini Dressing

Add this tahini dressing over salads, grain bowls, as a dipping sauce, or enjoy it in sandwiches and pitas. Here are a few ideas:

Can you freeze the dressing to use later? It makes too much for me.

I’m not sure that it would do well in the freezer, but you could keep it in the fridge for about a week. If it makes too much, another option is to half the recipe!

This is fabulous. Love the simplicity of it and using the maple syrup to balance the acidity is brilliant. This is definately a must try yum

This is my kind of dressing, light and tangy. I love adding lemon and mustard to my dressing, so I knew immediately that I would like this. I was not wrong, it’s so delicious, my new favorite.
