The Best Protein Powders for Energy Bites
One of the biggest questions I get asked is what my favorite protein powder is. That’s a tough one! There are so many great options out there. I typically prefer plant-based protein powders in general. Here are a few of my favorites, especially for making energy bites:
Protein Bites Too Dry?
Something that will make or break the texture of these cookie dough protein bites is the texture and quality of your almond butter. If the almond butter is creamy (and typically works best at room temperature), then they should turn out great!
However, if your almond butter is a bit dry, try adding just a little bit more maple syrup or mixing the almond butter with a creamier peanut butter. Add 1 Tablespoon at a time until the texture is right!

How to Store Cookie Dough Protein Balls
While Cookie Dough Protein Balls can be stored at room temperature, I recommend storing them in the refrigerator to make them last longer. Keep them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks!
You can also make a double batch of this recipe and freeze half of it for later. Freeze the energy bites in an airtight container for up to 3 months! When ready to enjoy, simply let them thaw in the fridge the night before.

Girl, these are so delicious! Especially in your overnight cookie dough oats recipe.
I initially had to use peanut butter instead of almond butter, and loved them, but when I finally got to try them exactly as the recipe states…. 5/5 Stars! So good and easy to make!
Thanks so much, Rhia. I’m so glad you liked them!
Wow! SO good! I used peanut butter because that’s what I had on hand, and it was delicious! I can’t wait to try again with the cashew butter you suggested. My daughter said they tasted like a healthy peanut butter blossom cookie. 🙂 Thank you very much for sharing the recipe! Will definitely be on repeat around here.
So happy to hear this, Theresa. I’m glad you and your daughter enjoyed this recipe!
Grandson is allergic to peanuts and almonds so many of recipes have these
Any ideas?
Is he allergic to cashews? Cashew butter is a great alternative. Sunflower Butter is another good option, too!
Hi Christine, thanks for sharing this recipe.
Can I take away the vanilla protein powder? Thanks, Flavia
I am wondering this same thing. Do you have to include the protein powder?
Hey Terry, omitting will change the nutrition for this. I haven’t tested but if you need or want to omit it I would add more almond flour to get the right consistency. You’ll likely need 1/2 cup of almond flour to replace the protein powder. Enjoy!
yes, I really love this recipe and looking delicious.
Thank you, Annie! 🙂
