Who says pancakes need to be reserved for weekend brunch? I love pancakes for weekday breakfasts (and dinners, for that matter). Mocha Peanut Butter Protein Pancakes, (opens in a new tab) Healthy Sweet Potato Pancakes (opens in a new tab), Healthy S’more Pancakes (opens in a new tab), Pecan Pie Pancakes (opens in a new tab)….I’ll take them all! But these Chocolate Protein Pancakes are just hitting the spot right now, friends!

Chocolate Protein Pancakes Recipe Ingredients

  • Oat Flour – You can use store-bought oat flour or blend rolled oats until they’re fine and flour-like. Use certified gluten-free oats if needed.

  • Banana – Adds natural sweetness and helps keep the pancakes soft.

  • Eggs – Help bind the batter together and add extra protein.

  • Protein Powder – Use your favorite dairy-free and gluten-free chocolate or vanilla protein powder.

  • Chocolate Superfoods Powder – Adds even more chocolate flavor and a nutrient boost.

  • Cocoa Powder – Gives the pancakes that rich, brownie-like chocolate taste.

  • Baking Powder – Helps the pancakes rise and become fluffy.

  • Almond Milk – Keeps the batter smooth and easy to blend. Any milk you love will work!

  • Salt & Cinnamon – Just a pinch of each brings out the sweetness and chocolate flavor.

How To Make This Chocolate Pancake Recipe?

The great thing about these protein pancakes is that they’re based off of 3 main ingredients: eggs, protein powder, and a banana. Once you have those 3 ingredients, you can make any variation or flavor that you want!

In this case, I made these Chocolate Protein Pancakes using one of my fave superfoods, Detox Organics Chocolate Superfoods, (opens in a new tab) and added a little bit of cocoa powder for that extra chocolaty taste. I always love incorporating Detox Organics (opens in a new tab) into my chocolate-based recipes because it literally tastes like chocolate milk, blends right in as a powder, and adds so much nutrition to whatever I’m making! Chocolate Pancake Tips

  • Blend until smooth – Since this recipe uses oats, blending everything well helps create a smoother pancake batter.

  • Let the batter sit for a few minutes – Oats naturally absorb liquid, so letting the batter rest for 2-3 minutes can help it thicken slightly.

  • Cook over medium heat – If the pan is too hot, the outside can cook too quickly before the inside is done.

  • Use a small amount of batter – Smaller 4-5 inch pancakes are easier to flip and cook more evenly.

  • Flip when bubbles form – Wait until the edges look set and a few bubbles appear on top before flipping.

  • Adjust the milk if needed – If the batter gets too thick, add a splash of almond milk to loosen it up.

  • Banana Slices – Extra banana on top makes these taste sweet, cozy, and almost dessert-like.

  • Peanut Butter or Almond Butter – A drizzle adds so much goodness!

  • Maple Syrup – Classic, simple, and always delicious.

  • Chocolate Chips – Add a few on top or mix them into the batter for extra chocolatey goodness.

  • Greek Yogurt or Dairy-Free Yogurt – A creamy topping that adds a little extra protein.

  • Cacao Nibs – Perfect if you want crunch without too much extra sweetness.
