What You’ll Need to make Chocolate Covered Apple Slices
Here’s what you’ll need for this Chocolate Covered Apples recipe:
- Apples – Gala or honey crisp are my favorites!
- Vanilla Greek Yogurt
- Vanilla Protein Powder (opens in a new tab)
- Peanut Butter (optional)
- Chocolate Chips (opens in a new tab) – Semi-sweet chocolate or vegan chocolate.
- Coconut Oil (opens in a new tab)
- Chopped Peanuts
- Flaky Salt (optional)
How to Make Chocolate Dipped Apples Slices
These chocolate covered apples only take a few minutes to put together! For best results, it’s good to wait the full freezing time before eating. This helps the yogurt to set and the chocolate shell to harden. However….I definitely ate them before they were completely set and I was still just as obsessed!
- Slice and core the apples.
- Mix yogurt, protein powder, and peanut butter together.
- Coat each apple slice in the yogurt mixture, then place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Freeze for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
- Melt chocolate chips and coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl to create a magic shell.
- Dip each apple slice in the melted chocolate.
- Quickly top with chopped peanuts and flaky salt.
- Freeze for another 1-2 hours (or if you’re impatient like me….just freeze them as long as you can wait)!

Tips for Slicing Apple Donuts
- Don’t feel like making the apple “donut” shape? Feel free to cut the apples into wedges or thin slices, instead!
- An apple corer (opens in a new tab) would have been wonderful! But I didn’t have one, so I just sliced through the apple vertically and then cut out the core on the slices that needed it.
- You can peel the apples if you want, but I kept the skin on for this recipe.
- Add any toppings you want – chopped nuts, sprinkles, caramel drizzle, (opens in a new tab) mini marshmallows, fresh strawberries, and more!
- If you choose to only partially dip the apples in chocolate, it’s best to soak the slices in lemon juice first.
Freezing Chocolate Covered Apple Slices
I recommend keeping these chocolate covered apple slices frozen, especially since we don’t want the yogurt mixture to melt! However, they can also stay refrigerated for 1-2 days.
To freeze chocolate covered apples, simply place them in an airtight container and freeze! When ready to enjoy, take the amount you want out and let them thaw for 3-5 minutes before enjoying.
How long do Chocolate Covered Apples Slices Last?
In the fridge, chocolate covered apples last 1-2 days. However, they can be frozen for up to 1-2 months!
