The BEST Sweet Potato Brownies Recipe

My kids absolutely love these brownies. I’ve been making them as a fall treat for years, and they’re always so delicious! This recipe can be easily modified to be dairy-free, vegan, or even gluten-free. Which is perfect for my toddler with food allergies! They’re also fun for involving the little ones – my preschooler loves to help make these!

Whether you’re looking for a healthy-ish brownie recipe or a delicious fall treat, you can’t go wrong with these Sweet Potato Brownies. Every bite is melt-in-your-mouth chocolatey goodness! These brownies can go two ways: regular sweet potato brownies (hidden veggies – yay!) or fall-spiced sweet potato brownies. Either way, you’ll love this easy one-bowl recipe!

What You’ll Need

Sweet Potato Puree – Canned sweet potato puree (opens in a new tab) works best since the water ratio tends to be just right. However, you can also make your own!

Whole Wheat Flour – This recipe calls for whole wheat flour, but all-purpose flour or gluten-free flour (opens in a new tab) works great, too.

Brown Sugar – Dark or light brown sugar sweetens these brownies to perfection. However, feel free to use regular granulated sugar instead!

Butter/Eggs – Unsalted butter and eggs are a must in brownies. Easily make Vegan Sweet Potato Brownies by subbing with vegan butter sticks (opens in a new tab) or coconut oil and flax eggs or a vegan egg substitute!

Cocoa Powder – Cocoa powder turns these brownies into chocolatey goodness!

Baking Chocolate – I like using dark baking chocolate (opens in a new tab) for extra-fudgy brownies. Dark chocolate chips are a good substitution, too!

Spices – Cinnamon, nutmeg, and a little bit of clove make these brownies the best fall dessert. If you’re not feeling the fall flavors, you can just omit the spices!

Q&A

Can you taste sweet potatoes in brownies?

No! Sweet potato puree hides really well in brownies.

How do I make my brownies more gooey and fudgy?

The key to gooey, fudgy brownies is to have more fat and less flour in the recipe! These brownies are delicious and fudgy because of this ratio.

Can I make these brownies sweeter?

Yes! If your brownies don’t seem sweet enough, you can add 1/4 – 1/2 cup extra of granulated sugar.
