What is Greek Seasoning?

Greek Seasoning is a simple blend of dried herbs and spices inspired by classic Mediterranean flavors. It’s herby, a little citrusy, and just the right amount of earthy—perfect for adding a bold, zesty twist to everyday meals! I love using it to season chicken, roasted veggies, salad dressings, and even baked fries. Think of it as your go-to flavor booster when you want something delicious and effortlessly fresh!

Homemade Greek Seasoning Ingredients

  • Greek Oregano – Sometimes referred to as Mediterranean oregano (opens in a new tab), it’s a completely different plant than Mexican oregano. Peppery and herbal, it’s a common herb used in Greek food and is the base of this flavorful blend.
  • Dried Basil and Dried Parsley (opens in a new tab) – Although both of these dried herbs are a little light in flavor, they help balance the other stronger flavors, and bring a freshness to the seasoning.
  • Salt – If you prefer to make your seasonings salt-free, feel free to omit the salt. Or add more salt if you like a more salty flavor profile.
  • Garlic Powder – Bold and full of umami flavor. The garlic is so good in this seasoning.
  • Rosemary and Thyme – Both rosemary and thyme (opens in a new tab) have strong, woody flavors.
  • Dill and MarjoramDill (opens in a new tab) and marjoram (opens in a new tab) are both bright, tangy, and a little citrusy which works so well with lemon and is usually added to Greek recipes.
  • Black Pepper – Black pepper adds just a little warmth and spice to the seasoning.
  • Cinnamon and Nutmeg – The heroes of this homemade seasoning recipe. Cinnamon and nutmeg aren’t super obvious in the flavor, but they add a subtle something that truly makes this next level!

How to Use Greek Spices

  • Roasted Vegetables – Heat the oven to 375 degrees F, add whatever veggies you love to a sheet pan, and toss the vegetables with 1 Tablespoon of avocado oil and 2 Tablespoons of Greek Seasoning. Bake for 20 minutes or until desired doneness. Try it on brussel sprouts, onions, zucchini, carrots, and red potatoes!
  • Greek Chicken Kabobs w/ Tzatziki Sauce – This flavorful recipe is even better by substituting the oregano in the chicken marinade with equal parts of the homemade seasoning blend.
  • Grilled Meats – Take your grilling to the next level! Rub the Greek seasoning, a little oil, and lemon juice liberally into the protein of your choice and let it sit for 5-10 minutes before grilling. The flavor is so herby and bright. I love using it on chicken breasts, turkey burgers, and pork tenderloin.
  • Greek Salad Dressing – Add 1/3 cup olive oil, 2 Tablespoons red wine vinegar, and 1 Tablespoon Greek seasoning for a very simple and quick dressing.
  • Greek-Inspired Turkey Pita Sandwich – Up your weekday lunch game with these pita sandwiches. Substitute the seasonings in this recipe for 1 Tablespoon of the Greek blend.
  • Seasoned Feta – Sprinkle a little olive oil, Greek seasoning blend, and lemon juice over crumbled feta. It’s delicious as a snack with pita crackers or sprinkled on a salad.
  • Turmeric Greek Yogurt Chicken Salad Lettuce Wraps – Add a herby touch to this chicken salad recipe with a teaspoon of Greek seasoning in the mix.

How to Store Homemade Greek Seasoning

  • Room Temperature – Store in an airtight jar or container for 3-6 months.
  • Fridge or Freezer – Extend the life of your seasoning by storing it in the refrigerator or freeze for up to 1 year in an airtight jar, container, or freezer bag.
