Olive Oil – A little bit of olive oil is used to add flavor and saute the vegetables. Avocado oil is another great option!

Vegetables – Yellow onion, minced garlic, diced carrots, mushrooms, and peas are the main vegetables in this Healthy Tuna Casserole recipe. You can also add steamed broccoli or chopped kale!

Thyme – Fresh or dried thyme (opens in a new tab) (your choice) adds tons of flavor and depth.

Milk – I used regular milk, but any type of unsweetened plant-based milk works great, too!

Broth – Chicken or vegetable broth are both delicious options in this recipe.

Flour – Feel free to use all-purpose flour or even a gluten-free flour alternative!

Dijon Mustard – The dijon mustard (opens in a new tab) in this recipe brings perfect balance and flavor to this creamy sauce. Trust me, it’s so good!

Cheddar Cheese – Mix the shredded cheddar cheese into the casserole for the best Tuna Noodle Casserole! You can also adjust the amount to your own personal taste.

Tuna – Canned tuna is perfect for this recipe.

Parmesan Cheese – Top the baking dish off with grated parmesan cheese for a next-level dinner!

Whole Wheat Breadcrumbs – I love these whole wheat breadcrumbs (opens in a new tab) for adding to casseroles like this one. So good! These lower-carb cauliflower crumbs (opens in a new tab) are a great substitution, too.

This is by far the best and most delicious tuna casserole recipe I’ve ever made! Even my picky, steak-loving husband couldn’t stop talking about how good it was, even days later. Thank you!!!!

P.S. If I may suggest one small improvement, it would be helpful to include an option to toggle between ounces and grams in the recipe measurements.

    1. Jar Of Lemons

Thanks so much, Ariel. I’m so glad you enjoyed this tuna casserole recipe!

  2. Reva

Are you supposed to cook the egg noodles before adding them?

    1. JOL Team

Yes, pre-cook the egg noodles or pasta according to the packaging till just al dente.
